ALUMNI

Types of Gifts

  • Unrestricted Giving
An unrestricted gift means just that—there are no restrictions from the donor on how the gift is to be used. Undergraduate Princeton Engineering alumni contribute unrestricted gifts through their class’ Annual Giving efforts. These gifts provide the University with the unrestricted funds needed to maintain Princeton’s unsurpassed tradition of undergraduate education within the framework of a research university. Graduate alumni support the on-going operations and programs of their departments through the Princeton Engineering Graduate Annual Giving program. Graduate Annual Giving is credited directly to the donor’s home department, thereby maintaining the connection between alumni and their academic departments. Annual Giving augments the department’s general operating funds and provides funds for such important needs as graduate financial aid, computer resources, and laboratory support. You can learn more about it at Princeton Annual Giving.
  • Capital Giving
Capital gifts support a range of specific endowment, construction, and term funding needs. While capital gifts are most often in the form of cash or securities, they may also include gifts of real estate, appreciated property, limited partnerships, and a variety of planned giving options. Capital gifts can also be paid over a period of several years.
  • Planned Giving
Princeton offers a full range of tax-wise strategies for making gifts, including bequest designations and a variety of income-producing trust gifts. Through Planned Giving, donors can:
    • Receive steady, secure lifetime payments in exchange for a gift.
    • Contribute appreciated stock, real estate, or other assets, and reduce or avoid capital gains tax on those assets, while diversifying their portfolio.
    • Pass property on to children or grandchildren through an arrangement that minimizes gift and estate taxes.

  • Corporate and Foundation Giving
Gifts and grants from corporations and foundations can have a major impact on the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Our goal is to link Princeton Engineering's programs and projects to corporate and foundation donors with matching interests.
